| Basketball Wives Season 4 Cast |
This week, a new season of the very popular VH1 series Basketball Wives premiered. Shauni O’Neal is back with her vivacious, confrontational cast of girlfriends- Jennifer Williams, Evelyn Lozada, Suzie Ketcham, Royce Reed, and the troublemaker Tami Roman. This season two new wives are being thrown into the Lioness Den mix- Kesha Nichols and Kenya Bell.
The first episode immediately introduces us to the two new basketball wives who we had hoped were actual wives but were left with disappointment, again. Kesha is the ex-fiancĂ©e of Richard Jefferson, who left her at the alter on the day of their wedding. Kenya Bell, on the other hand, was introduced as the wife of Charlie Bell – but quickly added, during her personal comments segment, that she and Bell were in the process of a divorce and she could not wait [for it to be final]. Womp, womp!. When will these "wives" shows ever contain actual wives?
Staged friendships between women that are only interacting with each other because of the show starts off this episode. We quickly find out that Evelyn is still upset with Jennifer for negative press Jennifer has been giving in regards to Evelyn's union, and soon-to-be marriage, with football player Chad Ochocinco. Tami, of course, needs them to sit down and talk to each other; this is one of Tami's many talents- a counselor (instigator). Tami also continues planting the seed for future problems by reporting back to Jennifer the opinions of the new cast members about their first meeting with Jenn. This episode ended with a shouting match between Jennifer and Evelyn- how surprising?
This is our problem- how long is Evelyn going to go to be upset with Jennifer after she apologized about her press comments, even though she admitted to Evelyn she’s made the same very comments before to Evelyn in person- that Jennifer disapproves of Evelyn's union with another athlete. We understand that Evelyn has a right to be upset because why did Jenn have to share this in the media, especially about her best friend- the last thing anyone would expect are negative comments to come from your best friend of over a decade. But Evelyn, this is not Suzie. Remember when Evelyn shunned Suzie, making Suzie's life miserable on the show, and exiling her from "the circle." Evelyn has this very strong, vulgar and abrupt way of expressing how much she dislikes someone. Frankly, Evelyn and her nasty foul mouth make us cringe. Just the sight of Evelyn jumping across a table to attack Jennifer, shown on the season preview, sets us women with any morale standing back... waaaay back. Why can’t Evelyn just write Jenn off and move on? Guess that would be too easy... after all it’s TV we’re discussing here. Tami continues to instigate amongst the group, forcing issues to arise- we’re trying to figure out if she is any more mature than her teenage daughters. Leave that to the high school kids Ms. Roman!! One of the new “girls” (that’s seems like the best way to reference them) seems to jump right into the catty gossiping trend of the show very smoothly, and Shauni continues to sit back creating this cesspool of derogatory, distasteful and classless TV for these women to revel in. Is the money worth this negative image for these ladies? We know we’re worth more than this image.
We’re tired, we’re embarrassed, and it’s shameful to even admit that we were entertained by it at some point in time. However, we’re not like this.
This is fake ...
This is Real… Real women… Real friendships...
Only thing we can say is grow up ladies, and we’re on strike until you do!
